Family Division
A very perplexing passage in scripture is Matthew 10:34- 11:1, Jesus tells us that He did not come to bring peace but the sword. He came to divide, man against father, daughter against mother etc. This feels like a direct conflict with the Ten Commandments; Honor your mother and father. Another argument might be how can this be when the family unit has been intended to provide us with a team of beloved ones to help us mange the struggles of life? What could this mean? We’ll need to dig deeper to consider why families must split apart. Division feels like more of a tool of the enemy than of God.
Truth must come forth… truth over comfort. Without conflict, we become a people pleasing space. If we remain people pleasers, the people pleaser herself will eventually become the one who is unseen. The people she is pleasing do not hear truth because they may believe that they can be perfect, just as they are. If a person has a people pleaser doing life beside them, a nonconfrontational person who loves them, they can be lured into the belief that they do no wrong (aka narcissism) I believe we all carry some pride to different degrees. The most extreme pride trap is the narcissist.
The other end of the spectrum is the one who is consumed with self-pity (victim mentality). We all slide up and down this scale as well, shifting between thinking we are better than we truly are or worse than we truly are.
While having seasons where we lean one way or another, it’s quite possible to completely attach to one or the other stronghold as our identity, either believing we can do no wrong or believing we can do no right. When that occurs, it will take a big event to dismantle that deep rooted lie. A trauma, or a grief, can create an opening toward a shift in consciousness. This rock bottom moment does not need to be our end, death.
If Light is invited in, a resurrection becomes an opportunity. Resurrection is available for those who know. We all know because this knowing is hardwired in our DNA by the Creator himself! Genius! He placed this knowledge in our deepest realm, in the depth of our hearts, where we find our souls, the Holy Spirit within.
As life throws us trouble, struggle, challenges and suffering, the window to our soul becomes covered with dirt and mud. We can no longer see or hear this truth clearly. That blinding layer that blocks our vision and wax build up in our ears keep us from seeing and hearing the truth that at one time allowed us to see the beauty in the world or hear that bell ring.
The more build up the easier it is to believe that we have it all figured out or we will never figure it out depending on which way one leans (pride or self-sabotage).
When the crisis occurs, we have a choice to make, to remain where we are, digging in deeper to the belief we have assigned ourselves or we can break apart our beliefs that have not led us to a firm foundation. We must pull forth great bravery. The easiest choice is to remain in our false identity but it’s also the most destructive choice because it only leads to further despair.
If we chose to try something new,
If we decide to allow change
If we wake up to the truth that life was not what we thought
If we decide now is the time to build a new foundation, rewire some neurotransmitters, seek truth over the lies, we find the most incredible Father, the most fantastic Friend, and the most amazing spiritual realm that had been hidden by our own blindness and deafness.
Resurrection power!
An awakening!
A new birth!
An opportunity to authentically live a life that had been designed for you from your conception!
This new way,
This new family,
This new identity, not of always right or always wrong, but as a child of the king!
The true eternal inheritance that is hardwired inside, becomes activated and you are now adopted into the family of the Kingdom.
God who has always been your Holy Father waits with arms wide open and greets you with a hug and kiss with so much love that you had never known before. So much grace and mercy that He doesn’t even ask why it took you so long to come to him. He’s just glad you are here now! Back into the truth, returning home to where you’ve always belonged.
Perhaps the reason the family must fall apart is so that our human family does not become our idol? Perhaps the reason is so that we humans push through the ceiling of human limitation and bust forth into the infinite power of our Creator?
During this season of life so many families are suffering greatly due to fractured relations. Whatever the reason for the divide is just a detail. Political divide, social justice divide, ideology divide, any division is the enemy’s attempt to keep us from Love. Maybe God is going to use this uncreative attempt to keep us from Love, to ultimately bring us into Love. He can use everything for good.
This is just a season, a time where the evil one believes he is in control when the truth is his demise is drawing near. We must keep striving for reconciliation while respecting that we cannot change others, we are only responsible to ourselves.
How do we transition out of our family squabbles?
The greatest commandments hold the answer:
Love God with all you heart!
Love others as you love yourself.
Some of us need to be reminded that people pleasing is not loving ourselves! Let’s start healing our own hearts first with our Creator, the Holy Father. Then we can love and forgive others with God’s abundant mercy and grace that surpasses all of our understanding, moving above human power and stepping into our inheritance of the Holy Family!
Blessed healer come! Heal our families! Heal our land! Heal our hearts!
