Kids Doing Kid Things
My people use this phrase a lot and it’s one I wish I had known when I was a new parent.
For some reason I bought into the lie that kids were problems to be solved or fixed. And yes, parenting does require a lot of problem solving and things that need fixing but now I know there is a big arena where we just need to accept that when a baby grows, the body changes. Crying will occur for reasons we cannot know. It’s ok.
Everyone knows transformation is painful. And yet we must move through the pain to get to the other side. It’s the only healthy way to grow. If you are like me, I hated watching my kids suffer so I would do everything I could to make the way as easy as possible.
Prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child.
In my desire to keep my children from pain, I got in the way of some life lessons that needed to be learned the hard way. Oh, they will still learn them, so that’s not necessarily the problem.
Why is in knowing that kids will be kids, a better way of managing parenting?
Because of what I carried that wasn’t mine to carry.
I became burdened.
I became weighted down with guilt, shame and blame.
I was unbalanced and miserable.
But God…
He showed me my faulty belief system. He exposed the ways I tried to prevent hard consequences. He showed me that sometimes a good cry is the best cleansing for the emotional struggles we face.
He revealed to me the behaviors I had developed earlier in life that were no longer of benefit and where actually causing harm to myself and my kids.
And
He reminded me of who I was and what my inheritance contained.
So now…
I am walking with a new freedom.
And oh how Glorious it is!
I wish this for everyone…
Could you imagine what kind of world that would be?
A place where we only carry what was meant for us to carry and nothing extra!
I think I know the answer.
Do you?
Stay blessed ya’all!
